Let’s take you behind the scenes to see how your beloved cup of Gold Dust Coffee is crafted:
Our story begins on fertile, volcanic-rich highland soils between 1,400 to 2,000 meters above sea level. Here, farmers carefully select high-quality Arabica varieties, including the traditional SL28, SL34, and the disease-resistant Ruiru 11. Seedlings are nurtured in nurseries before being transplanted during the rainy season for optimal root establishment.

Kenyan coffee is hand-picked to maintain quality, typically between October and December. Only the ripest, crimson cherries are selected in multiple rounds of picking — a meticulous, labor-intensive process that ensures superior cup quality.
After picking, cherries are delivered to nearby cooperative wet mills, often the heartbeat of the community. Here, the outer skin is removed through pulping machines, and the beans undergo wet fermentation in clean water tanks for 12–72 hours. This process enhances flavor clarity and brightness, unique to Kenyan coffee.

Post-fermentation, the coffee beans are thoroughly washed to remove the mucilage and then laid out on raised drying beds under the Kenyan sun. The beans are carefully turned and covered during rain or harsh midday heat. Drying can take up to 21 days to achieve the ideal moisture content of 10–12%.

Once dried, the parchment coffee is sent to specialized mills where the outer husk is removed. Beans are then sorted by size and weight, producing the renowned Kenya AA (large size and exceptional aroma) and Peaberry (small, round, flavor-dense) grades.

At Gold Dust Coffee, we roast these premium beans to precise profiles, bringing out Kenya’s signature flavor notes: a bright, wine-like acidity, full-bodied texture, and bold hints of blackcurrant, citrus, and floral undertones.

Finally, the freshly roasted beans are immediately packed in air-tight, aroma-seal packaging to preserve freshness and lock in the distinctive flavors of Kenya’s highland coffee. Every pack tells a story — of land, labor, and love — crafted for your perfect cup.
